i've designed a lot of cards. a - l-o-t of cards. twice for hallmark, and on my own for about ten years. in fact, that's how i first started out on my own: by selling cards i created to whoever would buy them while working as a c.d. at an inhouse design department job.

none of the cards on this page are from my hallmark days. they are so funny about copyright, i got scart! oh, could i tell you stories!

back on the subject, i had my own design "company" called recurve that i used to market the cards. the first few sets were under that umbrella. now, i don't do too many except for corporate and private clients. the spec work i used to do isn't for the faint of heart, and right now i'm feeling a little faint, i guess.

Various • Recurve Cards

i've always been partial to more of a moody look when it comes to greeting cards, as you'll no doubt notice as you navigate down the page.

i've never felt that you had to have hearts and flowers (all the time, anyway) to express a true sentiment. in fact, i think they usually get in the way.

card 1: I must me dreaming. inside: that you're still here with me. happy anniversary

card 2: inside: Happy Halloween to you and your devilish crew.

card 3: when days were dark, you lit the way. inside: thank you for always being there.

Various • Recurve Cards

this is a loose set of cards that came about as i was experimenting with mixing traditional illustration with computer illustration. the mix ended up pretty nice, at least to me, so i sold these designs with sixteen more of the same experiment.

card 1: Where you are... inside: is home to me.

card 2: they may call you blacksheep. insode: i call you mine.

card 3: inside: take me twice and nudge me in the morning.

card 4: any regrets? [nun] inside: i thank the heavens i met you.

Various • Recurve Cards

these three cards are some of my favorites. they were designed for my own company and sold as a set after completion to a major card company. hmmmm.

they're just a little snarky, as i can be sometimes, but are all in good fun. I also liked the idea of the entire sentiment being on the front with a blank inside.

card1: your wisdom and maturity well exceed the age you continue to insist your really are.

card 2: i wanted to touch base with the best boss i've ever had. so do you have his number?

card 3: you don't look a day over ten years younger than you claim to be.

Christmas Set • Berman Eason Cards

these cards are part of a larger set sold as a collection by a gift company.

following, you'll see the halloween version of the same artistic set.

all are blank inside.

Halloween Set • Berman Eason Cards

as you can see, these hold a similar feel to the christmas set, but ended up a little different. I went with the deeper tones and simplified the icons and backgrounds.
Occasional Set • Berman Eason Cards

i end up doing a lot of color studies, geometrics and digital design just for my own benefit...then end up just filing them away.

the designs here were part of a group of patterns i had done with not particular end in mind so i just filed them away.

when i was commissoned to come up with a bright but non-specific set of occasional cards for specific occasions, i pulled those old designs out of my, um, archive and here they are.

Hellodiac Line • Masterson Gifts

first off, let me say i didn't name the line. hellodiac?! that being said, these are some of my favorite cards. they took some research, collection of images, typesetting, illustration, font development...the whole bit. they were a lot of fun to design.

sure, my hourly rate went way down as i kept spending time tweeking this or that, but i love the relsuts. the cards have sign traits in very small type on the front—the goods ones right side up and the bad ones upside down. i created the font, the symbols and the star pattern. these are the kind of cards i'd personally love to receive.

note: i bought back the rights for these cards and hope to offer them for sale on the website soon.

Missing You Set • Masterson Gifts

masterson was a company that specialized in gifts with 50's imagery. they have since been bought out by someone or other. in any case, that kind of thing is right up my alley, so they asked me to esign a set of cards based on some clipart that they had purchased. when i got the clipart, it wasn't quite right, so i redesigned the illustrations just a little bit and here's a sampling of the results.

card 1: I'm slightly mixed up... inside: ...when you're not around.

card 2: I'm depressed... inside: without you here.

card 3: coffee can't keep me awake... inside: like you can. I miss you.

card 4: I'll be the toaster... inside: you be the bread. Hurry back!

Neons • Trevo Paperworks

these were created a loooooong time ago. i mention this because i'm sure these look rather simplistic in execution. let me just tell you this: this was all done in illustrator before you could press one button for a neon style and open up a dialog box to bevel and extrude. i did it all "by hand." i did, however, pretty much learn how to manipulate illustrator's functions that most of us designers don't use all that much.
Bubble • Warrick Cards and Gifts

this whole line was created for a regional retail card company that wanted to start their own line of cards. an occuring theme of theirs is bubbles and circles, so it was only fitting that the first cards under their name fit right in.
